Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree

Wisteria is a classic flowering plant prized for its romantic, cascading blooms and fast growth. The Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree (Wisteria sinensis) is a striking, tree-form variety trained to grow upright on a single trunk with a graceful canopy of lavender-blue flower clusters. This variety is more vigorous than many others and rewards gardeners with blooms earlier in its life cycle—often within the first few years of planting. Each spring, long, fragrant racemes of flowers emerge before the foliage, creating a breathtaking display. Buds first appear deep purple, open to soft lavender, and fade to blue, offering multi-tonal beauty throughout bloom time. With a fast growth rate, lush green summer foliage, and golden fall color, this Wisteria adds year-round interest and elegance to any garden or patio.Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree CareThis Wisteria thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soil. It can tolerate a range of conditions, but blooms best with at least six hours of sunlight per day. In zones with extreme heat, a bit of afternoon shade can help reduce stress. If you have heavy clay or poorly draining soil, consider planting on a raised mound to protect the roots.Water regularly during the first year or two while the plant becomes established. After that, this Wisteria becomes quite drought-tolerant, requiring minimal supplemental watering. Fertilization is rarely needed, but if growth is slow or leaves appear pale, a light application of balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can help.Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree SpacingThe Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree typically reaches 10 to 15 feet tall with a 10 to 12 foot spread. Allow enough space for the elegant weeping canopy to develop. Blue Chinese Wisteria Tree InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 5 – 9Plant Type: Tree FormLight Exposure: Full Sun (At Least 6 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height: 10 – 15 FeetMature Spread: 10 – 12 FeetSpacing: 10 FeetHabit: Upright – Trained Tree FormFlower Color(s): Blue, PurpleFlower Description: Purple blue podsBloom Period: SummerFoliage Type: DeciduousFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Green ShadesSeasonal Interest: Summer FloweringWatering: AverageResists: N/ATolerates: N/AAttracts: Birds, ButterfliesContainer Role: N/AUses: N/AFeatures: Foliage Interest, FragrantBrand: Common Name: Blue Flowering WisteriaOther Name(s): Scientific Name: Wisteria sinensis
