(Hybrid Spring Phlox) Enjoy even more spring color with ‘Purple Sprite’ Phlox. Although phlox subulata and hybrid spring phlox are different, they look much the same. Phlox ‘Purple Sprite’ blooms 1-2 weeks later than subulata varieties. Standing 6-8 inches tall and spreading up to 24 inches wide, ‘Purple Sprite’ forms a compact, slow spreading mound. These floriferous blooms will produce a canopy of bright purple blooms with white halos and small deep purple speckles near the center. Hardy in zones 4-8, planted in full sun is recommended for the best flower show, but very light shade is tolerated. Phlox ‘Purple Sprite’ is a drought tolerant plant and likes to be planted in well drained locations. This native perennial is butterfly and bee friendly. With its compact size and habit, ‘Purple Sprite’ is a great selection for borders, edging, and walkways as well as rock gardens and slopes. Phlox ‘Purple Sprite’ is a Proven Winners® Perennial.
