Do we need another white flowered garden phlox? I thought not until I grew Phlox ‘Dunbar Creek’. This amazing selection of our native phlox was discovered in 1989 by native plant gurus Don Hackenberry and Charles Oliver along Dunbar Creek in Fayette County, PA. Blooming several weeks earlier than many of the commercial cultivars, the 3′ tall plants are topped, starting in June (NC), with uniquely amazing flower heads. Each individual flower has strongly recurved petals creating a completely different but spectacular effect. In our garden, Phlox paniculata ‘Dunbar Creek’ has been one of the most mildew resistant selections we grow.
