Habranthus martinezii ‘Mini-Cherry’ is a strain of the Northern Argentinian rain lily, Habranthus martinezii. The vigorous, compact, 8″ clumps offset nicely, and begin their flowering season as early as mid-May in NC, and continue into September, after each rain, with large, light peachy pink horizontal-facing solitary cups with dark purple bases. Although Habranthus martinezii, named in honor of entomologist Antonio Martinez, was only discovered in 1970, it didn’t take long to make a splash on the horticultural scene, quickly earning the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit. The drought tolerant Habranthus martinezii ‘Mini-Cherry’ has been a great performer both in pots and in the garden. Each pot has multiple flowering-sized bulbs. It will seed around nearby the original clump, so keep this in mind when siting your plant.
