Bluebird Nemesia

Get a kickstart on spring with masses of dainty, blue-purple blooms that stand out against pretty green leaves. Bluebird Nemesia fruticans tolerate temperature extremes, blooming from early spring to the arrival of the hard frosts of fall. This plant has an upright habit with a height of 10-12 inches. You will love the clove fragrance of this award winner. Nemesia fruticans are colorful imports from South Africa. With a compact but spreading growth habit, they work well in the landscape or as a fun addition to a pot or window box. Use Bluebird to bring combinations together. Plant it with lobelia ‘Laguna’, ‘Superbena® Dark Blue’ verbena, and Supertunia® ‘Royal velvet’ petunia for a monochromatic theme. Bluebird Nemesia Care This plant is easy to care for. It would benefit from an application of fertilizer or compost at planting time. No deadheading is needed. You may want to trim or shear it in order to increase branching and encourage more flowers. Occasionally this may be necessary if night temperatures stay in the upper 70s. Its watering needs are moderate; for best results keep it on the dry side. Plant it in average but well drained soil in a location that receives part sun to sun. Bluebird Nemesia Spacing Set transplants 6-9 inches apart. Add 1-3 inches of mulch or organic compost.Bluebird Nemesia InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 8-10 Flower Color(s): Blue, Purple Bloom Period: Planting To Hard Frost Foliage Color(s) Green Light Exposure: Partial Sun to Full Sun Height Class: Medium Height: 10-12 Inches Spread: 12-18 Inches Spacing: 8-10 Inches Habit: Upright Watering: Average Drought Tolerant: No Container Role: Filler Use Types: Combinations, Container, Hanging Baskets, Landscape Features: Fall Interest, Continuous Bloom or Rebloomer, Fragrant, Deadheading Not Necessary Maintenance: Easy Scientific Name: Nemesia fruticans ‘Hubbird’ USPP 12,014, Can 1,634 Common Name: Bluebird Nemesia Other Name(s): Plant Type: Annual Brand: Proven Winners
